Artisan Skill & Employ is a workforce development program by Dormi Arts Initiative designed to equip young people and emerging creatives with practical artisan skills that enable them to participate in the creative economy.
The program focuses on training individuals in technical artistic production such as mural painting, decorative arts, craft production, fabrication, and other applied creative skills. Through structured apprenticeship opportunities and real project participation, trainees gain hands-on experience while contributing to professional art commissions led by artists working with Dormi Arts.
By connecting training directly to real projects and industry opportunities, the program bridges the gap between artistic creativity and practical employment, creating pathways for sustainable livelihoods within the creative sector.
Across Uganda, many young people possess creativity and artistic potential but lack access to practical training and structured pathways into the creative workforce. While the creative industry continues to grow, there remains a shortage of technically trained artisans capable of executing high-quality artistic production.
Key challenges include:
Without opportunities to develop practical skills and industry exposure, many talented individuals are unable to translate creativity into sustainable employment.
Dormi Arts Initiative addresses this gap by creating a system where artists, artisans, and apprentices collaborate on real projects that simultaneously produce high-quality artistic work and generate employment opportunities.
A thriving creative workforce where artisans and skilled creatives contribute meaningfully to artistic production while earning sustainable livelihoods.
